Where it comes from.
Idu House is an independent IP studio. We make our own films, music and stories, we produce work with brands and partners, and we help artists and storytellers build careers they own.
The beginning.
Idu House started with a question: what if there was a place where we could make cool stuff and help other people make cool stuff too? And, what if that all happened in a way that allowed creators to retain control and ownership of what they make?
We spent a lot of time trying to find a place like that that already existed.
We couldn’t find one.
So here we are building it.
Since October of 2025 we have been running Idu House as a creator led, creator first studio, but we don’t stop there. Idu House is also becoming a community of likeminded artists that want to thrive and see other artists do the same.
We operate based not on a north star but a constellation:
Independent Art Matters: because it does.
Everything for the Good of the Art: If it isn’t good for the craft or for our members, it’s not good for us.
Tell the Stories that Need to be Told: We put stories with cultural relevance and stories with a message at the forefront
Stay Rooted but Let The Branches Grow: We are a black first studio but everyone is welcome here.
More Than a Title: We are so much more than the work we do, but we use the work to connect with the culture and our community.
We started with a dream that turned into an idea, and now that idea is growing into something we KNOW will change the landscape of the entertainment industry for the better.
The name.
Idu does not literally translate to “origin.” Instead, it carries a historical, cultural, and cosmological connection to origin.
Idu is an older historical name associated with the Edo people and Edo land in present-day Nigeria. Linguistic sources identify Idu as an earlier name for the Edo people, while historical and cultural scholarship also refers to Edo land as formerly known as Idu.
The Edo word that more directly translates to “source” or “origin” is isi.
That distinction matters.
We did not choose the name Idu House because Idu is a simple dictionary translation of the word “origin.” We chose it because of what Idu represents.
In documented Edo cosmology, Edo land, formerly known as Idu, is understood as the origin of the world and the core of existence. It is more than the name of a place. It carries the idea of a foundational place from which life, identity, history, and possibility emerge.
That meaning resonated deeply with us.
How we work.
-
Original Stories
Films, music and stories we make ourselves and own.
-
Brand Production
Campaigns, launches, events and brand films, made with the people we develop.
-
Creator Development
Story, personal brand and release strategy for artists and storytellers who keep what’s theirs.
-
Culture and Community
4th Space is our philosophy of creative gathering: a room with intention, wherever we are.
The house is the people in it.
We are a distributed team, and the house is the people in it. The things we are working toward, a creator platform, more ways to get work to audiences, a place of our own, will each get a page when they are real. Until then, this is the honest version.
